Security glass and bullet-resistant windows for villas and homes

NetCom Security Group

Attack- and bullet-resistant glazing for windows, glass walls and protected rooms: how to choose it, which openings first, what drives the cost.

Security glass stops someone trying to get in, or someone trying to shoot: two different performances, with different classes. It is chosen by threat, by the position of the opening and by the frame that has to hold it. NetCom Security Group designs security glazing together with the alarm, glass-break sensors and the safe room, and coordinates installation with qualified window specialists.

Attack-resistant, bullet-resistant and burglar-resistant: three different things

Attack-resistant glass withstands blows from a bat, a hammer or a crowbar. Bullet-resistant glass withstands gunfire, with classes by calibre. A burglar-resistant window is the whole unit, frame and hardware included, resisting attempts to force it open. A real security window combines the three to the degree that house needs; buying the glass alone, on an ordinary frame, does not protect.

Which windows to protect first

Not all of them. Start with openings reachable without a ladder: ground floor, French doors to the garden, living-room glass walls, windows near canopies and balconies. Then the room where the family sleeps or shelters, which becomes the core of a safe room. Upper-floor windows that cannot be reached stay standard and are covered by alarm sensors. A site survey sets the order and avoids spending where it is not needed.

The frame matters as much as the glass

Heavy laminated glass in a light frame opens with a crowbar in seconds. The frame must be reinforced, the hardware multi-point, the fixings into the wall sized for the weight. That is why we design glass and frame together and measure them on site: a security window is a system, not a panel.

What drives the cost

The resistance class required (attack or bullet, and at what level), the size of the openings, the number of windows, the frame (reinforcing the existing one or a new unit), the finish required (timber, aluminium, flush) and the installation, more complex in historic houses. We do not publish price lists because two houses with the same number of windows can cost very differently; after the survey the quotation is clear and itemised.

Together with alarm, glass sensors and safe room

Security glass buys time; the alarm uses it. Glass-break and vibration sensors report the attempt before it succeeds, cameras document it, the safe room gives the family a place to wait for help. We design the four elements as one system, with one control and one contact.

How we work

Site survey with analysis of openings and risks, written proposal with the recommended class for each window, choice of materials with you and your architect, coordination of installation with qualified window specialists, commissioning with the alarm system, documentation for your insurer. We follow villas and homes across Italy, with one contact throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Is attack-resistant glass really safe?

Yes, if the class matches the threat and the frame holds it. Good-class attack-resistant glass withstands dozens of blows; a burglar gives up long before. The weak point, almost always, is the frame around the glass, not the glass.

How thick should security glass be?

Thickness alone says nothing: the resistance class and the lamination matter. Two panes of the same thickness can perform very differently. That is why our designs state the class, not the millimetres, and choose it opening by opening.

Bars, security glass or an alarm: which is better?

They are not alternatives. Bars stop but do not warn and change the look of the house; security glass stops without being seen; the alarm warns but on its own does not stop. In a villa the right mix is security glass on the critical openings, an alarm with glass sensors, and bars only where aesthetics allow and they are truly needed.

Can an existing window be upgraded?

Often yes: the glass is replaced with laminated glass of the right class and the frame and hardware are reinforced. When the frame is too light or too old, a new unit is the better choice. We decide at the survey, window by window.

How much does a security window cost?

It depends on the class, the size, the frame and the installation. That is why we do not publish a price: we give it in writing after the survey, itemised, so you know what you are paying for and can choose which openings to protect first.

Which standards define the classes? (for designers)

Manual attack resistance: EN 356 (P1A–P8B). Bullet resistance: EN 1063 (BR1–BR7, SG1–SG2). Burglar-resistant windows and doors: EN 1627 (RC1–RC6). Our design states the class for every opening and documents it for the insurer.
