Safe rooms and panic rooms in Venice, Treviso and the North-East of Italy: NetCom Security Group designs and builds, with its own technicians, the secure room of the house, in historic palaces, Venetian villas and family homes in Venice, Treviso, Padua, Vicenza, Udine and Trieste.

A safe room, also called a panic room, is the room where the family locks itself in and stays protected, with communications active, until help arrives. In a building with timber floors one more armoured door is not enough and a heavy envelope cannot be installed: what is needed is a light system of envelope, access, air, light and procedures designed around the family and the building. In the North-East we build it mostly in houses that have a history: palaces with timber floors, listed villas, family homes. Here the room is designed around the building, without forcing it.

Where it is done in Venice and the North-East

01Venetian palaces and houses in the historic centreVenice, Giudecca, Lido. The room is created on the upper floors, never at water level, with the lightest envelope compatible with the protection required.
02Venetian villas and family homesthe Brenta Riviera, the Marca Trevigiana, Asolo, Conegliano, the Euganean and Berici hills. Large houses with many entrances: the room goes near the bedrooms, in a walk-in wardrobe or a master bathroom.
03Business families of the North-EastPadua, Vicenza, Treviso, Pordenone, Udine, Trieste. Those who are known in the area need a house that protects even when the name is known: the room is combined with perimeter, cameras and access control.
04Prestige apartmentsin the cities a panic room in an apartment is possible, working on internal partitions, door and systems.

A palace on the water

A Venetian palace raises three questions that do not exist elsewhere. The first is high water: the ground floor can flood, so the secure room goes on the piano nobile or higher, with backup air and power kept dry. The second is weight: the old floors are timber and cannot carry a massive envelope. Light structures are used that give the same protection by spreading the load, with checks signed off by licensed professionals. The third is access from the water: water door, bank and jetty are real entrances. The perimeter covers them with cameras and sensors suited to damp and salt air.

Then there are the heritage constraints: the envelope is hidden behind the original surfaces, with reversible works agreed with those who protect the building. And logistics: materials arrive by boat and go up the stairs, so every element is designed in sizes that really fit. The same applies to listed Venetian villas.

How we design it

  1. Confidential site visit. We look at the house, who lives in it, the daily routines, the routes by land and by water and the time it takes for help to arrive.
  2. Scenario analysis. Intrusion with people at home, home robbery, emergency situations: for each one we decide where to lock in and for how long.
  3. Design of the room. Position, size, continuous envelope (walls, ceiling, floor), door and lock, air, light, backup power, independent communications.
  4. Integration with the system. Alarm, cameras, access control and home automation talk to the room: whoever is inside sees and communicates, whoever is outside does not get in.
  5. Installation and testing. Our technicians carry out the installation; structural works are signed off by licensed professionals. At the end we test everything together with the people who will use the room and hand over the written procedures.

What makes a room secure

01Continuous envelopewalls, ceiling and floor resist as much as the door. The weakest point decides for all of them.
02Door and lockburglary-resistance class and, if needed, ballistic class, chosen on the real risk and on the existing structure. See vault doors and armoured doors.
03Air and lightindependent ventilation and lighting, to stay inside without distress.
04Independent communicationsa line that works even if power or network is cut to the house.
05Alarm and camerasfrom inside you see what is happening outside and call those who must intervene.
06Procedures and drillsthe family knows what to do; we rehearse it together.

Safe room, strongroom, bunker

They are three different things. A safe room protects people for minutes or hours. A strongroom or vault protects valuables, resisting break-in for a long time. A bunker or shelter is for external events, for days, with filtered air. The needs can be combined in a single project: we decide after the site visit. Connected to the rest of the house

The secure room works if it talks to the rest: a perimeter alarm that warns early, cameras that show who is there, access control that closes the openings, home automation that switches off lights and blocks lifts. We design everything together, with our own technicians, and connect the system to selected external monitoring centres.

Confidentiality

We sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving floor plans or documents. We ask only for the data needed for the project. Our clients' homes remain confidential, even after the works.

Where we work

We follow projects throughout the North-East, from Venice to Trieste, all over Italy and, by project, in Europe. Our office is in Negrar di Valpolicella (Verona), little more than an hour from Venice, Padua and Treviso: we arrange the site visit within a few days, also in Friuli and Trieste. The other areas: where we work in Italy.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a panic room cost in Venice or Treviso?

In Venice and Treviso the cost of a panic room, in the experience of NetCom Security Group, depends on the size of the room, the level of protection of the envelope and the door, the air, light and communication systems and the building works needed in the house. After the site visit NetCom prepares a written bespoke proposal.

Is a safe room tax-deductible in Italy?

In part it can be: anti-theft works, such as armoured doors and reinforcements, are among the measures admitted by the Italian Revenue Agency. For expenses in 2026 the deduction is 50% for the owner's main home and 36% in other cases, up to 96,000 euros per property, in ten annual instalments. The specific case must be checked with an accountant.

Can a panic room be built in a palace in Venice?

Yes, and NetCom designs it on the upper floors, with light envelopes suited to timber floors. The weight is checked first, the materials arrive by boat and the original finishes stay in place.

Does the room stay safe during high water?

Yes, if it was designed for it: room, backup air and power are above tide level, and communications work even when the ground floor is flooded.

Can works be done in a listed Venetian villa?

Yes, with reversible works agreed with those who protect the building: the envelope is hidden behind the original surfaces and the door is integrated into the finishes. NetCom prepares the drawings for the permits with licensed professionals.

Who does the work?

Our own technicians: NetCom designs, supplies, installs, connects to the system and tests. Structural works are signed off by licensed professionals.
